About Us
The Pupuke
Golf Club was established in 1914 and is one of the
oldest golf clubs in the Auckland region. At the
time it is doubtful that the Clubs founding members
could have possibly envisaged the North Shore as we
know it today, or the significant benefit the club
contributes to the social fabric of what has become
one of New Zealand largest cities. |

The original course was developed out of straggly grassland
and secondary bush on undulating to difficult terrain, not
ideally suited to playing golf. However the clubs pioneers,
with a vision and a “can do” attitude, over many years of
hard work and endless hours of volunteer labour by its
members, created a delightful golf course. Hundreds of trees
were strategically planted and the land contoured to create
an interesting and challenging layout. The course has been
further developed and improved over the years and today
provides an excellent golfing experience in a picturesque
setting with outstanding views to the sparkling waters of
the Hauraki Gulf.
Importantly, the golf course forms the greater part of
“Centennial Park” which is a Recreational Reserve and a rare
oasis of open space on what is otherwise a closely developed
urban environment. It provides recreational opportunities
not just for golfers but also the wider community, with
walking tracks through regenerating native bush with
flourishing birdlife. Few golf Clubs enjoy such a
magnificent parkland setting.
Every effort is made to enhance your golfing experience at
Pupuke. We are known as “the friendly club” with social
events and golf activities that are the envy of other clubs.
Sometimes unfairly “branded” as a difficult course, the
layout cleverly negotiates its way around the steeper parts
and through the trees and has a slope rating of only 117. A
bad shot might penalize you with a visit to the bush or some
of the more ‘interesting’ terrain but you will soon be back
on gently undulating fairways. You will quickly develop your
skill level and become an accurate golfer.
Come and experience Pupuke for yourself. If you possess a
reasonable level of fitness you will find it “just a stroll
in the park!”
